Professional Chapter
- The Albuquerque professional chapter gave an introduction to their projects in the Navajo Nation.
- Water Quality - Past Uranium mining has affect the water quality in the aquifer In addition, water is scarce and hard to access in villages atop of mesas.
- Solar Heating - Solar units were generously donated to the village. However, design modifications are needed and help installing them.
- The team is planning future project involving school children. The team will help with a community garden and provide cooking classes. The idea is that with the children educated on nutrition, some of the knowledge will make its way home to the parents, providing better meals for the whole family.
- If you are interested in learning more or helping with any of these projects contact Mike Griesmeyer (mgriesmeyer2@comcast.net)
UNM + NMT
We are excited to announce a new partnership between the UNM and NMT Chapters! This is great news, because this means we will have double the manpower to engineer, write reports, get community support and recruit new members! This will be a big transition for our groups, so some time will be needed to "hash out" exactly how this partnership will run. As such, there will be a Meeting July 17th at 6pm. (Location to be determined for group "Google hangout"). We will work on
- Communication plan between chapters and Bolivian Communities
- Define Project positions and roles
- Go over data sharing
- Goal setting and Schedule making
Some other ideas we discussed for future brainstorming (please bring your ideas to this meeting!!)
- Finding Corporate sponsorship (perhaps a team of people to seek out sponsorships)
- Possibly seeking out help from university's "Capstone" program
- Grant writing committee
- Group bonding! (This will be a challenge due to distance between chapters)
- Perhaps K-12 mentoring
