We went over and talked about the may facets of engineering which aren't covered in our classes.
- Ability to create design reports
- Putting plan sets out to bid
- What do consulting engineers do
- How does an "owner" contract work with an engineer
- The ways an owner can contract the overall project, essentially the workflow
- Standards are available for a resource - EJCDC, APWA, Army Corps of Engineers Manuals, State/City, ASTM, ASME, etc..
- Cost Estimating - everyone wants to know how much it is going to cost before anything gets done
- Responsibilities during construction
- Engineers don't do inspections we do observations
- Organization of all sources of information into a single coherent manual for the customer is your responsibility
- Communication with non-technical people i.e. clients. It's a skill. There is no class in it
- Writing is an important skill
- Ask lots of questions
